~Healthiness is Next to Happiness

As cleanliness is next to Godliness, healthiness is next to happiness. The human body is an amazing machine and our greatest instrument to achieve the things we want and live our lives to the fullest. The human body is far more sophisticated in construction and operation than even the most complex of human-created technology. However, like a machine, the human body needs to be taken care of in order to work at optimum performance. Although we can't control everything, the quality with which we live our lives and how long we live is directly related to our health and the way we choose to treat our bodies on a day to day basis.

Living a long, healthy life is mostly a matter of making smart choices. Making smart choices about health involves everything from understanding the consequences of smoking, drinking, and drug use to the careful observance of good nutrition, daily exercise, and taking care of our bodies when we get sick, run down, suffer from allergies, or spend too much time in the sun. Health-conscious people understand that what we choose not to do is just as important as what we choose to do. Simple decisions such as wearing sunglasses, being conscious of cholesterol-heavy foods, and exercising 20 minutes a day can make an enormous difference.

Unfortunately, there is a definite movement in society to focus on benefits in "the now" rather than consequences in the future. Examples of this kind of behavior include exercising too little, over-eating foods that our bad for our bodies, under eating to such an extent that we deprive our bodies of our nutritional needs, over tanning and increasing our risk of developing skin cancer by not wearing sunscreen, under medicating when we need to reduce our symptoms and give our immune systems strength to heal, or over medicating or abusing drugs and refusing to seek help with treatment or rehabilitation.

Choosing to actively stay healthy provides us with more benefits than might be apparent on the surface. People who live healthy lives not only increase their chances of living longer, but they also improve the quality of life that they live. Healthy bodies have more energy and healthy minds are more positive. Healthy people more consistently weather storms of bad health and are able to respond to stress and other difficulties with a more positive attitude.

The resources on this site are designed to provide information as well as encourage a trend toward healthy behavior. We believe that some of the biggest health concerns facing Americans today are:

  1. Not Exercising Enough
  2. Poor Nutrition and High Cholesterol
  3. Skin Cancer and Sunscreen
  4. Improperly Medicating for Illness and Allergies
  5. Drug Use and Addiction

It can't be emphasized enough how important it is to be mindful of health in an age where so much of what we see, eat, and imitate is bad for our bodies. If we are mindful about our health, we will be better able to do the things we need to do in order to enjoy our lives, chase our dreams, and spend as much time as possible with the people we love.
